Under the direction of the Director of Utilization Review, this position will provide guidance to all Clinical Assessment Counselor staff and will work closely with the Business Development and Marketing Department, Utilization Review Department, and the Admissions departments across Meridian Behavioral Health to ensure that all potential patients are assessed for admission, placed within a site and/or properly referred outside the organization. The Clinical Assessment Counselor Lead will also provide training and on-going guidance to the Resource Coordinator team and report concerns and recognition regarding department needs to their immediate Supervisor.

Pay: $67,000 - $72,000 Annually
Shift: Full-Time, 1st shift

Responsibilities

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
  • Provide guidance to all CAC and UR staff as well as train and orient new staff
  • Assist with organizing and maintaining schedules for UR and CAC staff
  • Assure that all patients admitted meet clinical admission criteria
  • Complete all assessment and pre-admission material upon admission
  • Ensure that billing forms are completed and turned in to the billing department immediately following admission
  • Conducts in depth clinical assessment interview using self-report forms, Rule 25 assessment forms and any and all other requested standardized assessment tools
  • Communicates clinical information to Utilization Review Staff
  • Communicates clinical data and coordinators admission process with the receiving facility and program
  • Coordinates and collaborates with referral sources, clinical professionals
  • Internally & externally to ensure clinical/medical appropriateness of admissions
  • Provide excellent telephonic customer service
  • Complete online and telephonic funding verification/eligibility
  • Provide financial counseling for callers
  • Follow-up with counseling and medical staff as needed
  • Articulate relevant clinical information to managed care companies based on level of care necessity
  • Document all relevant financial and funding information in client electronic medical record
  • Complete online and telephonic funding verification/eligibility
  • Maintain communication with callers as needed, follow-up as needed
  • Work closely with business office, outpatient, and intake staff
  • Communicate necessary referral source follow-up to marketing staff
  • Provide phone intervention and crisis assistance as needed
  • Educate callers on community resources and treatment options as needed
  • Assist marketing staff with public relation activities and publications as needed
  • Take after hours on-call when assigned
  • Assume other duties and responsibilities when necessary

Skills & Qualifications

Required:
  • A current and valid Alcohol and Drug Counselor license issued by the Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health is required.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in the field of mental and chemical health required
  • Experience processing referrals and admissions in a behavioral health setting is highly desired.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in residential or outpatient behavioral health settings is highly desired.
  • Experience working with Minnesota payers is highly preferred.
  • Must possess a valid Minnesota driver’s license
  • Must know and understand the implication of parts of all rules and regulations, both at the State and Federal level pertaining to their role.
  • Must document 12 hours of training in co-occurring mental health problems and chemical abuse of dependency that includes competencies related to philosophy, screening, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning, documentation, programming, medication, collaboration, mental health consultation, discharge planning.
  • On-going training on of cultural awareness and demonstration of sensitivity to various cultural norms and values.
  • Strong and effective written and verbal communication skills across diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to articulate level of care necessity with managed care companies and MBH staff
  • Flexibility to meet a variety of changing priorities
  • Maintains consistent and professional communication with MBH staff
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to function as a member of multiple teams
  • Ability to analyze situations and make independent judgments
  • Knowledge of chemical and mental health concerns and their treatment
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Problem analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in relevant computer applications
  • Good data entry/keyboard skills
